Sneaker Fervor

Sneakers: Adidas here || Smoking Jacket: Sandro similar here and here ||  Silk tee: Vintage Browns similar here || Trousers: See By Chloe similar here or here || Bag: Acne here

All hail the sneaker savvy devotees and their ability to convert a legion of stiletto trotting, court heel clicking disciples to the common sense of the trainer. I'm sure for the most part in fashion month history it may have been seen as one of the biggest faux pas to finish your look with a pair of flat, or dare I say it "practical" footwear. The SS14 couture shows (see Chanel & Dior) however confirmed sneakers are in fact an official high fashion shoe.

Now i'm not suggesting we were all waiting in the wings for Karl Lagerfeld and Raf's Simon's unofficial approval, as sneakers have been having a moment on the sartorial scene both on and off the catwalk for a while now. The fact however, that the Parisian's most iconic and synonymously feminine fashion houses have marked their stamp on the sporty shoe, shows truly the gravitational pull and timeless cool of the Streetwear look. The sneaker is no longer a shoe worn as a compromise for comfort or for the sole purpose of an athletes game. They're a complimentary addition to the style concious aesthetic and for that lucky little proportion of society's social elite, the most directional accessory to an haute couture gown.

Just last month Adidas gave rebirth to the iconic 'Stan Smith' shoe. In it's video campaign, endorsed by a dynamic mix of faces from fashion, music and film, the Tennis icon Stan Smith himself tells how " A lot of people now think i'm a shoe". The timelessness of the sneaker has surpassed it's original face in a sense and has staked it's claim as an individuals own fashion accessory.

I'm personally obliged to give props to the queen of understated cool herself, 'Celine's' own Pheobe Philo for wearing the shoes on her own stylish accord, being photographed in them in the finale to her AW12 show and in doing so letting us regular flat shoe preferring chicks know it's ok to be effortless, in the truest sense of the word. My sneaker doting feet are most appreciative.
