Isabella Blow, Fashion Galore!

Illustrations are Authors own

Last Wednesday, Somerset house opened their doors to a grand exhibit showcasing the life and musings of the Late Isabella Blow. Super stylist, editor and talent scout, Isabella was one of the most legendary style icons of her day and beyond. Discovering the likes of Alexander Mqueen and milliner Phillip Treacy, who went on to become two of the most influential creators and collaborators in the fashion industry to this day.

The exhibit takes you on a high fashion journey through the early life and career of Miss Blow, with a stunning show of pieces from her very own wardrobe, as well humourous and touching memoirs from her personal life. I adore how Blow pushed for creatives with a great emphasis on concept in design, her work represented an eccentrism and fearlessness toward style, bringing the art in fashion to life and celebrating the extravagant. She continues to inspire throughout the industry and elsewhere with the likes of Grace Jones and Lady Gaga emulating a somewhat Blow-esque image (think lobster hat). The showcase shares adoration to an industry icon well and truly missed!

Style Inspo: 'Le Sape' Society

Photos via youtube. Music video by Solange who featured the 'le sap society' in her video  'Losing You' ,directed by Melina Matsoukas

There's something innately attractive about a man in a well tailored ensemble. A dapper fitted suit speaks volumes of it's wearer and their character. The gentlemen of Bacongo make no exception in their personal style choices, for them it's a philosophy and ethos of charm and elegance.

'Le Sapeurs' as they are known as, adopt an aesthetic reminiscent of Parisian dandies and the Saville Row elite. They battle their fashion out on the street catwalk, pitting international designers up against locally produced pieces. A stark contrast to the shanty town Brazzavile, their dress provides a deep sense of pride in their identity as Congo's new school of cool. I adore the way these men live and breath the clothing they wear. A true example of a modern day style subculture with a sophisticate attitude to life! (fellas take note)

Winter Wish list

Winter wish list

My winter wish list is a medley of AW14 trends. Combining quintessentially british checkers with a sleek leather aesthetic, plus some serious lusting over the seasons 'Trophy sweaters'. This A wang fur fronted beauty is my pick. (Oh, and the departure of mr sun doesn't mean I intend to hibernate my shaded eyewear!). The pricetag for some of these items are clearly a far leap from my student bank account. Hence the header "wish list". A girl can dream. (scans Zara website for a wallet friendly equivalent)

Wednesday night I attended the launch for 'The Fashion Book'. Arguably the most impressive compilation of industry bio's, spanning over 100 years in fashion history. Last published 15 years ago, the books makeover exhibits a groundbreaking pack of new designers, stylists, icons and photographers who've marked their territory on the industry since then.
